Taiwan on Sunday shipped medical supplies to India as the South Asian country continued to fight a dramatic rise in coronavirus cases.
"These oxygen concentrators & cylinders are love from Taiwan. More help for our friends in #India is on the way," Taiwan Foreign Minister Joseph Wu tweeted on Sunday.
The first batch of medical supplies, which includes 150 oxygen concentrators and 500 oxygen cylinders, was shipped by Taiwanese carrier China Airlines, Taiwan's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said the first batch of Taiwan's medical supplies will be received by Indian Red Cross Society.
Taiwan will continue to provide India with much-needed medical supplies in order to help it cope with Covid-19, the ministry said in a statement.
The ministry also said that it has been evacuating Taiwanese nationals living in India, which is in the middle of a second wave of the pandemic and on Saturday became the first country to cross 400,000 daily Covid-19 cases.
The virus surge has overwhelmed health care systems, with reports that several patients have died outside hospitals for want of hospital beds or medical oxygen.
