Russian Missile and Drone Barrage Kills at Least 16 Civilians Across Ukraine

At least 16 civilians were killed and more than 100 others wounded after Russia launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles against Kyiv and several other Ukrainian cities overnight, Ukrainian authorities said on Tuesday.

Among the victims were a three-year-old child, a mother, and her eight-year-old son, whose bodies were recovered from the rubble of residential buildings in the central city of Dnipro following the large-scale attack.

The assault, which stretched from night into daylight hours, caused widespread destruction across multiple regions of Ukraine, trapping residents beneath collapsed apartment buildings and prompting emergency crews to carry out rescue operations in heavily damaged neighborhoods.

In Kyiv, at least four people were killed and 63 others injured, including three children, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged in several districts of the capital.

Ukrainian officials said Russia launched 73 missiles and 656 drones during the attack, targeting Kyiv, Dnipro, Poltava, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, among other cities. Air defense forces intercepted or suppressed a large number of the incoming projectiles, but several strikes reached populated areas.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack and renewed calls for additional military support from Ukraine’s Western partners, arguing that continued missile strikes underscore the need for stronger air-defense capabilities.

The latest barrage comes amid an intensification of Russia’s aerial campaign against Ukraine, as Moscow continues long-range strikes more than four years after launching its full-scale invasion of the country.
