Emmanuel Macron was elected to a second term as French president on Sunday evening, according to exit polls.
Macron won the presidential election after winning between 57.6 percent and 58.2 percent of votes, said exit polls.
His far-right challenger Marine Le Pen received between 41.8 percent and 42.4 percent of the votes.
The election saw the country’s highest abstention rate in 50 years.
