Morocco received nearly 9.4 million visitors through its border crossings by the end of June 2026, marking a 6% increase compared with the same period last year, according to the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts (DEPF).
In its latest economic brief, the DEPF attributed the growth to stronger arrivals from several key international markets, including France (+9%), Germany (+14%), Belgium (+9%), the Netherlands (+10%), Italy (+6%), Poland (+32%), the United Kingdom (+4%), and the United States (+9%).
The report said the positive momentum reflects the continued recovery and expansion of Morocco's tourism industry, which posted value-added growth of 8.1% in the first quarter of 2026, following an 8.7% increase during the same period a year earlier.
The DEPF noted that the sector's main performance indicators point to sustained growth in the coming months, supported by rising visitor numbers and strong demand across the country's leading destinations.
Overnight stays in classified tourist accommodation rose by 9% through the end of May, building on a 12.4% increase recorded during the same period in 2025.
Several destinations registered robust growth in overnight stays, led by Ouarzazate with a 24% increase, followed by Rabat (+18%), Agadir (+13%), Casablanca (+12%), Marrakech (+10%), Tangier (+8%), Errachidia (+8%), Fez (+7%), Essaouira (+6%), and Al Haouz (+4%).
Tourism revenues also continued their upward trajectory. Travel receipts reached nearly MAD 53.8 billion ($5.9 billion) by the end of May, representing a 14.6% increase compared with the same period in 2025.
The latest figures reinforce tourism's role as a key driver of Morocco's economic growth, with rising international arrivals, higher accommodation demand and stronger foreign exchange earnings supporting the sector's positive outlook for the remainder of 2026.
