Morocco Tourism Surges 7% in Q1 2026 with 4.3 Million Visitors

Morocco’s tourism sector posted a strong performance in the first quarter of 2026, with more than 4.3 million tourists visiting the country between January and March, marking a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to official data.

The figures, released by the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, highlight continued momentum in the sector as Morocco strengthens its position as a leading global travel destination.

March stood out as a particularly strong month, with the country receiving nearly 1.6 million tourists, representing an 18% increase compared to March 2025.

Authorities described the March figures as exceptional, pointing to what they called a “strong signal” of sustained recovery and growth in tourism activity.

The ministry attributed these results to ongoing efforts under Morocco’s 2023–2026 tourism roadmap, which aims to boost the sector through targeted reforms and investments.

Key priorities of the strategy include strengthening air connectivity, expanding into new source markets, and enhancing tourism offerings across different regions of the country.

Officials say these measures are beginning to yield tangible results, as reflected in the steady increase in visitor numbers.

The growth also reflects Morocco’s broader strategy to diversify its tourism base and attract a wider range of international travelers.

Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor said the latest figures confirm that “Destination Morocco is on the right track,” emphasizing that efforts will continue to maintain this upward trend throughout the year.

She added that the government remains committed to consolidating gains and ensuring the sector’s long-term resilience and competitiveness.

The strong start to 2026 builds on Morocco’s post-pandemic recovery, which has seen the country emerge as one of Africa’s top tourism destinations.

Analysts note that sustained growth in arrivals is also supported by improved infrastructure and increased international visibility.

The momentum comes as Morocco prepares to co-host matches of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, an event expected to further boost tourism and global exposure.

With rising visitor numbers and ongoing investments, Morocco appears well positioned to meet its annual tourism targets and reinforce its standing on the global tourism map.
