French Outlet: Morocco Emerges as Africa’s Top Tourist Destination

Morocco has established itself as Africa’s leading tourist destination, benefiting from political stability and deep-rooted historical heritage, according to French tourism news outlet La Quotidienne.fr.

The publication reports that the Kingdom has reached the top position on the continent while recording one of the fastest tourism recoveries globally in the post-pandemic period.

It attributes this performance largely to Morocco’s connectivity strategy, which has played a central role in boosting arrivals and strengthening the country’s international positioning.

Air transport remains a key pillar of this growth, with around two-thirds of tourists arriving by air, the outlet notes.

In this regard, national carrier Royal Air Maroc is implementing an ambitious expansion plan, supported by partnerships with major European airlines, including Air France–Transavia, Ryanair and easyJet.

The latter launched its first base outside Europe in Marrakech on April 1, marking a significant step in expanding Morocco’s air links with key markets.

Europe continues to drive the bulk of tourist inflows, with France alone accounting for around 30% of total arrivals.

According to La Quotidienne.fr, Morocco welcomed a record 6 million French visitors in 2025, underscoring the strength of bilateral tourism flows.

The outlet also highlights the importance of infrastructure development in sustaining the sector’s momentum.

Morocco is investing in high-speed rail to improve domestic connectivity, with plans to extend the TGV line from Tangier to Casablanca and further to Marrakech by 2029.

At the same time, the country’s airports are being upgraded to handle up to 75 million passengers annually by 2030.

The hotel sector is also expanding, particularly in the high-end segment, as Morocco seeks to attract a more diverse and higher-spending clientele.

Tourism revenues reached a record MAD 124 billion (around EUR 12 billion) last year, reflecting the sector’s growing contribution to the national economy.

The country is reinvesting around 3% of these revenues into marketing and infrastructure to sustain growth and competitiveness.

Morocco aims to double tourist arrivals in the coming years, while increasing the average length of stay and strengthening visitor loyalty.

This strategy is supported by a diverse tourism offering, with around 150 unique destinations showcasing the Kingdom’s cultural and natural richness, the French outlet concludes.
