Morocco Among Top African Destinations for Russian Tourists

Morocco is attracting growing interest from Russian travelers and has emerged as one of the leading African destinations for visitors from Russia, Russian Ambassador to Rabat Igor Belyayev has said.

In remarks to Russia's state news agency RIA Novosti, Belyayev said Russians are showing increasing interest in the Kingdom, noting that, according to available data, Morocco has become "almost the top African destination" for Russian tourists.

He added that Russians have traditionally held warm feelings toward Morocco and continue to enjoy visiting the North African country, reflecting the steady expansion of tourism ties between the two nations.

The ambassador's comments come as Morocco continues to post record-breaking tourism figures. The Kingdom welcomed 19.8 million tourists in 2025, up 14% from the previous year, further cementing its position as Africa's leading tourist destination.

The strong performance was driven by expanded air connectivity, sustained investment in tourism infrastructure, and the diversification of source markets, in line with Morocco's strategy to attract visitors from both traditional and emerging markets.

Russia has become an increasingly important source market for Morocco's tourism sector, helped by visa-free travel for Russian citizens and growing interest in the Kingdom's beaches, cultural heritage, and year-round mild climate.
