Diaz: We have shown the world Morocco's strength, now we want the semi-finals

Morocco international Brahim Diaz says the Atlas Lions have already proved their quality on the global stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico, stressing that the team's ambition is to continue its historic run.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Wednesday evening local time, Diaz said Morocco have demonstrated their potential throughout the tournament and are determined to maintain the same fighting spirit and winning mentality as they prepare for a crucial quarter-final against France.

Morocco, the only remaining Arab and African nation in the competition, will face France on Thursday evening local time in a highly anticipated last-eight clash, with the Atlas Lions aiming to reach the World Cup semi-finals for a second consecutive edition.

"Every player understands the magnitude of the challenge that France represents," Diaz said. "The squad is preparing with complete focus and confidence, and we believe we have what it takes to achieve a positive result that will make the Moroccan people proud."

The Real Madrid playmaker, who is competing in his first World Cup with Morocco, said the team would approach the match with strong unity and determination as it seeks to produce a performance worthy of its growing ambitions and continue writing history at the 2026 World Cup.

Diaz also expressed his admiration for France captain Kylian Mbappe, his teammate at Real Madrid, describing him as an exceptional footballer with outstanding abilities.

"Kylian Mbappe is a great player with extraordinary qualities," Diaz said. "We will meet on the pitch, and both teams will go into the match aiming to win. As for me, I will give everything I have to help Morocco secure victory."

Concluding his remarks, Diaz said the outcome would be decided on the field, expressing hope that Morocco's remarkable World Cup journey would continue.

The winner of Thursday's quarter-final will face either Spain or Belgium in the semi-finals.
