Canada coach hails Morocco's "incredible talents" ahead of World Cup last-16 clash

Canada head coach Jesse Marsch has described Morocco as a "well-organized team with incredible individual talents" ahead of Saturday's Round of 16 encounter at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference in Houston, Marsch praised the Atlas Lions' tactical discipline and adaptability, warning that his side faces one of the tournament's toughest challenges.

"Morocco is extremely well-structured," the Canadian coach said, highlighting the team's "tactical maturity and great flexibility on the field, which allow it to fully capitalize on its players' strengths."

Marsch added that Morocco's recent performances have significantly strengthened the team's self-belief, pointing in particular to the Atlas Lions' display against the Netherlands in Monterrey.

"The level of confidence and the swagger with which they played that match, we know we're in for a massive challenge against a really talented team," he said, while expressing confidence that his players are capable of producing a top-level performance.

Canadian defender Alistair Johnston also spoke highly of Morocco, recalling his experience against the Atlas Lions at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and warning his teammates about the passionate support they are likely to encounter.

Johnston said the Canadian national team is currently experiencing "one of the most promising periods in its history," but described the upcoming encounter with Morocco as an exciting test against "a true giant of world football."

The Round of 16 clash on Saturday pits two teams that have emerged among the biggest success stories in international football, with Morocco seeking to continue its impressive World Cup journey and Canada aiming to further cement its rise on the global stage.
