British Press Hails Morocco’s Bouaddi as Man City’s “Next Midfield Maestro”

The official announcement on Wednesday of the transfer of young Moroccan midfielder Ayoub Bouaddi to English giants Manchester City has generated widespread reaction in the British press, with outlets describing the 18-year-old as the club’s “next midfield maestro.”

British media outlets said Manchester City’s decision to sign the Moroccan talent sends a strong message to European football, highlighting Bouaddi as one of the most promising midfielders of his generation.

The British press also noted that Bouaddi’s move to the “Citizens” makes him the most expensive player under the age of 20 in Premier League history.

The Guardian presented Bouaddi as “Manchester City’s new Rodri,” highlighting the Moroccan international’s tactical intelligence, maturity and technical ability.

The newspaper said the comparison with Rodri underlines both the nature of Bouaddi’s position and the strategic importance of Manchester City’s signing. It described the Moroccan as “a computer,” pointing to the enormous expectations at one of the world’s biggest clubs, where ending a season without a trophy is considered a failure.

The Guardian also noted that despite his young age, Bouaddi has already accumulated significant experience, particularly on the international stage, including his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Morocco.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports noted that Bouaddi could have joined another major European club where he would have been gradually integrated into the first team. At Manchester City, however, he arrives in a different capacity, as a major investment expected to contribute to rebuilding a midfield that has recently lost several of its key players.

British media analysis has particularly focused on Bouaddi’s football intelligence on the pitch, stressing that the international experience he gained with the Atlas Lions has significantly strengthened his reputation.

Sky Sports observed that Bouaddi faced some of the world’s best players during the 2026 World Cup and emerged as one of the tournament’s standout discoveries. It particularly highlighted his performance in Morocco’s match against Brazil, where his ability to win duels attracted widespread attention.
