LaLiga President Javier Tebas said on Wednesday that the 2030 World Cup final will be held in Morocco, provided FIFA President Gianni Infantino remains in office and “there is no surprise.”
Speaking at a conference organized in Huesca, northern Spain, by the Association of Executives and Managers of Aragon (ADEA), Tebas said he would personally prefer to see Spain win the tournament rather than host the final on the Iberian Peninsula.
Tebas recalled that Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), is a “very powerful” figure who serves as Morocco’s finance minister and is also a member of the FIFA Council.
He said that if Lekjaa had stated that the final would be played in Morocco, “it is because he had a reason” to make such a statement.
The LaLiga president also referred to the Hassan II Stadium, currently under construction in Casablanca, saying: “If Morocco builds the Hassan II Stadium, it will not be for the cricket final.”
Tebas also criticized the absence of LaLiga from the organization of the 2030 World Cup, despite its involvement in managing access to Spanish stadiums.
He acknowledged that LaLiga’s relationship with the current Spanish government “is not good,” while expressing frustration over its exclusion from the tournament’s organization.
“There have been so many things in this country in recent years that make no sense that, unfortunately, nothing surprises me,” Tebas concluded.
