Ukraine voices support for Morocco’s autonomy plan to end the Sahara conflict

Ukraine voiced, on Monday, support for the autonomy plan that Morocco offers to end the Sahara conflict.

According to the Moroccan state-owned news agency, MAP, Kyiv’s Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuliba, met his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, in Rabat, to conduct bilateral discussions.

The same source added, that after the discussion, the Ukrainian minister announced his country’s support for the autonomy plan for the Sahara under the sovereignty of Morocco, as a "serious and credible" basis for a successful settlement for the Sahara issue.

Kuliba also stressed that Ukraine and Morocco realize the value of sovereignty and territorial unity, MAP pointed out.

In the meantime, the Ukrainian official said according to the same source, that Kyiv also supports the efforts being made by the UN Envoy to Sahara, Stefan Demistura, which aim to find a realistic and permanent political solution accepted by both parties, in accordance with the decisions of the Security Council of United Nations.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister concluded that the settlement of the Sahara issue is necessary for regional peace and security.
