The Swiss Federal Councillor, Karin Keller-Sutter, head of the Department of Justice and Police, has reiterated the position of the Swiss confederation which does not recognize the polisario puppet entity.
In response to an oral question to the Swiss Federal Assembly, Keller-Sutter defended the merits of the federal court's decision last August, which had rejected the appeal filed by an individual challenging the Swiss authorities' decision to refuse, when renewing his refugee permit, to indicate "Western Sahara" under the heading "nationality", noting that this ruling has made a necessary correction to ensure the accuracy of the information contained in the Central Migration Information System (SYMIC) and to ensure that it corresponds to the position defended by the Federal Government at international level.
She stressed that this step pursues an objective of general interest in connection with the consistency of Swiss foreign policy, stating that this decision takes into account the fact that Switzerland does not recognize an entity under the name "Western Sahara".
The Swiss Confederation, through the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAE), has reiterated, on many occasions and at different levels, that it supports the efforts of the United Nations and the central role it plays in the process concerning the Sahara issue.
Being convinced that only negotiation will lead to a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, Switzerland stresses the importance of serious and credible efforts by Morocco to find a political solution based on compromise, while taking note, in this context, of the Moroccan autonomy initiative.
Moreover, the DFAE states that ''there is no official representation of the "polisario" at the United Nations Office in Geneva, nor at the Federal Council''.
