Spanish think tank: Madrid's support to Moroccan Sahara 'fair and reasonable decision'

Spain's new position towards the Moroccan Sahara issue is "fair and reasonable", said Friday the Center for Hispano-Moroccan Studies, a think tank based in Zaragoza.

"The position of the Spanish government is fair and reasonable and opens a new page in relations between the two countries," noted the president of the Center, Miguel Angel Puyol Garcia, in a statement to MAP.

"This is a step forward to put a definitive end to this artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara," said Puyol Garcia.

This decision will also open "promising prospects for cooperation between the two countries in all areas, as two neighboring countries and friends united by geography and history," he stressed.

"Spain considers the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the most serious, realistic and credible basis for the resolution of the dispute" over the Moroccan Sahara.
