The Spanish minister of defense, Margarita Robles, said today in a press interview that there is "no doubt about the Spanishness of Ceuta and Melilla" which are located in the north of Morocco.
Robles stressed in an interview with Europa Press that the government's position is "Clear," and Ceuta and Melilla are Spanish as Madrid or Cuidad Real or any other Spanish city.
Robles' statement comes after the dispute that has been flamed in Spain in the media and among the Spanish political class, when the head of Moroccan government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, has stated in a television interview recently that both cities of Ceuta and Melilla are Moroccaness as Western Sahara.
Spain refuses any dialogue or discussion about the two autonomous cities' situation. It considers Morocco's claims to return them to its sovereignty are false claims and don't deserve to be discussed.
For its part, Morocco considers that Ceuta and Melilla are both Moroccan cities occupied by Spain. It relies on History and geography to defends its claims, especially that both cities have shared history and territorial borders with Morocco. In contrast, they are separated from Spain by the Mediterranean.
