US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker confirmed yesterday in Algiers that Morocco's autonomy plan to solve the Sahara issue is the only solution that should be negotiated.
"For the United States, only political negotiations between Morocco and the Polisario within the context of the autonomy plan can resolve" the conflict over the Sahara, said Schenker at a press conference in the capital of Algeria.
Schenker visits Algeria as a part of his tour in the region, which also will take him to Morocco to discuss bilateral relations between Morocco and The United States and issues related to economy and security.
In his press conference in Algeria, Schenker said that all the steps were taken before have failed to solve the Sahara problem, so it is time to take a courageous solution to end it.
