Russia's ambassador to Morocco, Igor Belyaev, has said Moscow's expertise in nuclear technology could support Morocco's development priorities beyond energy production, highlighting potential cooperation in healthcare, agriculture and water desalination.
In remarks to Russian state news agency RIA Novosti, Belyaev said Russia has developed world-leading capabilities in nuclear technologies that could be applied across a range of civilian sectors important to the Kingdom.
"Russia has unique experience in nuclear energy and is one of the world leaders in the development and practical application of nuclear technologies," the ambassador said. "These competencies could be in demand not only for energy projects but also in a number of civilian sectors that are priorities for Morocco."
Belyaev noted that nuclear technologies have a wide range of peaceful applications, particularly in medicine, where they are used for radionuclide diagnostics and radiation therapy.
He added that such technologies can also contribute to agriculture by helping assess soil erosion, improve fertilizer efficiency and enhance food security.
The ambassador further highlighted the role of nuclear technology in water desalination, an area of growing strategic importance for Morocco as the country continues to expand efforts to address water scarcity through large-scale desalination projects.
His remarks come as Morocco seeks to diversify its international partnerships in advanced technologies while investing in sectors aimed at strengthening water security, agricultural resilience and healthcare infrastructure.
