Russia sees Morocco's ongoing efforts to develop liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure as creating new opportunities for bilateral energy cooperation, Russian Ambassador to Rabat Igor Belyayev said on Monday.
In an interview with Russia's state news agency RIA Novosti, Belyayev said cooperation in LNG supplies represents one of the most promising areas for expanding energy ties between the two countries.
"In the natural gas sector, cooperation in the supply of liquefied natural gas is a promising area for collaboration," the ambassador said.
Belyayev noted that Morocco's plans to build infrastructure for receiving and regasifying LNG are creating favorable conditions for new suppliers to enter the Moroccan market.
According to the Russian envoy, these projects also open up "promising prospects" for expanding Russian-Moroccan cooperation in the gas sector.
Beyond natural gas, Belyayev highlighted green hydrogen as another area with significant potential for partnership.
He said that as Morocco advances its green hydrogen strategy, Russian companies could participate in pilot projects and later contribute to the implementation of major investment initiatives.
"With the development of Morocco's green hydrogen program, opportunities are emerging for Russian companies to participate in pilot projects and, subsequently, in the implementation of major investment initiatives," Belyayev said.
Morocco has positioned itself as a future regional hub for clean energy, pursuing large-scale investments in renewable energy and green hydrogen production as part of its long-term energy transition strategy. The Kingdom is also advancing LNG infrastructure projects aimed at diversifying its energy sources and strengthening energy security.
