Peru’s President-Elect Backs Morocco’s Sovereignty Over Southern Provinces

Peru’s President-elect Keiko Fujimori has reaffirmed her future administration’s commitment to supporting Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its Southern Provinces, according to an announcement by her office on Tuesday.

The position was conveyed during a meeting between Fujimori and Morocco’s Ambassador to Peru, Amin Chaoudri, who delivered a congratulatory message from King Mohammed VI following her election victory.

According to the President-elect’s Office, the meeting underscored the incoming Peruvian government’s support for the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and its sovereignty over the Southern Provinces.

Fujimori also reiterated her backing for United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797, describing it as recognizing Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the basis for reaching a final political solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.

In his congratulatory message, King Mohammed VI extended his warm congratulations to Fujimori on the confidence placed in her by the Peruvian people and wished her success in fulfilling their aspirations for greater progress and prosperity.

The King also highlighted the longstanding ties between Morocco and Peru, built on friendship, mutual respect, and shared values, expressing his readiness to work closely with the President-elect to elevate bilateral relations into a multidimensional partnership serving the interests of both nations.
