Ninth in the world: Morocco vaccinated almost 4 million people against COVID-19

Morocco is still keeping its progress in the vaccination campaign, with almost 4 million people have already been vaccinated against COVID-19 with the first dose, making Morocco in the ninth position among countries with the highest number of people vaccinated so far.

The Moroccan Ministry of Health announced that 3,913,615 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 (1st Dose) up to March 6 at 6 p.m., while 578,942 people have received the second dose of the vaccine.

However, the national vaccination campaign in Morocco could witness a stop in the ceiling of vaccinating just 4 million people until other shipments of vaccine arrive in the country.

The number of vaccine doses that Morocco has secured so far is 8 million; given that any individual needs two doses, it means that Morocco could only vaccinate 4 million people.

The competent authorities in Morocco have not said anything yet about the date of the arrival of other vaccine shipments. In case of any delay, Morocco will continue the campaign giving the second dose to people who received the first one.

Morocco’s Ministry of Health has recently said that it signed contracts with AstraZeneca and Sinopharm to get 65 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine in order to vaccinate 80 percent of Moroccan citizens (more than 30 million) within five months at maximum.
