New Coronavirus strains push Morocco to extend precautionary measures

The Moroccan government announced today the extension of the precautionary measures adopted on January 13 to fight the pandemic for an additional two weeks, as of tomorrow, February 16, at 9 p.m.

A government press release said that this decision is taken on the basis of the recommendations by the Scientific and Technical Commission concerning the need to maintain the necessary measures to fight the coronavirus.

The same source added that This extension also follows the evolution of this pandemic on a global level after the appearance of new strains of the virus, adding that it is part of the ongoing efforts to curb the spread of the epidemic and limit its negative repercussions.

Morocco kicked off a national vaccination campaign against COVID-19 on January 28, and more than 1 million and 4 thousand people have already been vaccinated so far.

According to the Ministry of Health, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country up to February 14 rose to 478,474, while the number of recoveries increased to 458,852, pointing out that the recovery rate has reached 96%.

The same source showed that the total death toll due to Coronavirus in Morocco reached 8,477, adding that the fatality rate stands at 1.8%.
