Morocco's re-election to the Council of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) is an international recognition of the progress made by Morocco, under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI, in the maritime and port sector, the Ministry of Transport and Logistics said.
This re-election also reflects the prominent place and trust enjoyed by the Kingdom with the international maritime community and within this UN institution, the ministry underlined in a press release.
It is the crowning achievement of the Kingdom's sustained efforts and dynamic role in IMO bodies, the same source noted, adding that this crowning achievement is the fruit of a promotional campaign carried out jointly by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, as well as the ministerial departments concerned and public enterprises.
Since joining IMO in 1962, Morocco has supported the actions carried out by this organization to reinforce maritime safety and security, fight pollution, improve maritime freight operations and ease procedures within the IMO, the press release recalled.
The Kingdom was re-elected to the IMO Council for 2024-2025, during the the 33rd Assembly of this organization.
