Morocco’s Economy Grew 4.9% in 2025, Driven by Strong Agricultural Rebound

Morocco’s national economy recorded growth of 4.9 percent in 2025, up from 4.4 percent in 2024, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

In its note on the economic situation in 2025, the HCP said non-agricultural activities expanded by 3.9 percent in volume terms, supported by an 8.2 percent increase in agricultural activity.

The economic performance was driven by the dynamism of domestic demand and occurred in a context marked by controlled inflation and rising financing needs for the national economy.

The value added of the primary sector increased by 7.1 percent in volume terms in 2025, mainly due to the recovery of agricultural activities, which grew by 8.2 percent. This improvement came despite a sharp decline in the fisheries sector, whose growth rate fell from 8.8 percent in 2024 to minus 13 percent in 2025.

The secondary sector, meanwhile, saw its growth rate slow to 3.3 percent in 2025, compared with 3.8 percent a year earlier.

This development reflected mixed performances across the sector’s components. Growth in extractive industries eased from 11.5 percent to 7.5 percent, while manufacturing activity recorded a slight slowdown from 2.1 percent to 1.9 percent.

By contrast, the construction and public works sector continued to improve, with growth rising from 6 percent to 6.7 percent. Meanwhile, electricity, gas, water supply, sanitation, and waste treatment activities experienced a significant slowdown, with growth falling from 5.4 percent to 0.6 percent.

The value added of the tertiary sector also slowed, with growth easing from 5.6 percent in 2024 to 4.3 percent in 2025.

At current prices, gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 6.5 percent in 2025, compared with 8.7 percent in 2024, resulting in an overall price increase of 1.6 percent.
