Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita reaffirmed the Kingdom’s unwavering support for Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council and legitimate government during a telephone call Friday with Yemeni Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Afrah Al-Zouba.
The call focused on strengthening bilateral relations, activating the cooperation framework between the two countries, and discussing recent developments in Yemen and other issues of mutual interest.
Bourita reiterated Morocco’s firm support for Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, stressing the Kingdom’s backing for the legitimate Yemeni authorities and state institutions.
He also affirmed Morocco’s support for Yemen’s right to protect its security and territorial integrity and confront threats, amid a recent escalation by the Houthi movement along Yemen’s western coast and around the Bab al-Mandeb, according to Yemen’s official news agency SABA.
Bourita further expressed Morocco’s support for measures aimed at strengthening Yemeni state institutions and contributing to security and stability in Yemen and the wider region.
During the call, Al-Zouba briefed Bourita on the latest developments in Yemen and praised what SABA described as Morocco’s “unwavering and brotherly” position in support of Yemen’s constitutional legitimacy, unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
She also commended Morocco’s contribution to the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen, led by Saudi Arabia, following the Houthi takeover of state institutions, as well as Rabat’s continued support for the Yemeni state and its institutions.
SABA also highlighted Morocco’s support and assistance to the Yemeni people, particularly through student scholarships, and welcomed efforts to expand areas of bilateral cooperation.
At the conclusion of the call, Bourita invited his Yemeni counterpart to visit Morocco as part of ongoing efforts to promote dialogue and coordination and further strengthen relations between the two countries.
