Morocco Works 'Relentlessly' to Address Migration Challenges - Italian Daily

Morocco is working relentlessly to address the challenges related to migration at the national and regional levels, in full compliance with its international commitments," according to Italian daily L'Identita.

Under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, "the Kingdom advocates a solidarity approach that puts the human element at the center of its priorities, and an active policy enshrined in the National Strategy for Immigration and Asylum, which has allowed to regularize the administrative status of several tens of thousands of irregular migrants, who are now fully integrated into the Moroccan society," the newspaper wrote, describing this strategy as "one of the most advanced models of migration management, both at the legislative and institutional levels."

Regarding the storming of the metal fence in the province of Nador by illegal migrants, the Italian paper spoke of a "criminal operation led by international mafia networks, supported by some African countries that, for political reasons, have an interest in exerting pressure on European countries."

This attempted assault was "premeditated and planned". It "was executed in a well-thought-out manner, unlike the usual storming attempts," commented the newspaper.

The people involved in the Nador incidents came "from Sudan and passed through Libya and Algeria," L'Identita observed.

"Information reveals that the attackers infiltrated through the border with Algeria taking advantage of the country's deliberate laxity in controlling its borders with Morocco," noted the newspaper, recalling that the perpetrators viciously attacked the security forces, injuring 140 Moroccan officers.

The newspaper also recalled that "European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, and Spanish Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, recently met with Morocco's Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, as part of the regular political dialogue between Morocco and the EU."

All parties agreed to renew their partnership to address, together, the networks of trafficking in persons, especially following the emergence of new and extremely violent modus operandi adopted by these criminal networks, L'Identita concluded.
