Morocco has welcomed the agreement reached between the United States and Iran on a Memorandum of Understanding, describing it as an important step toward consolidating the ceasefire and ensuring the sustainable freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates said the agreement was of “particular importance” for strengthening the ceasefire and safeguarding maritime traffic through one of the world's most strategic waterways.
“The agreement reached between the United States of America and Iran on a Memorandum of Understanding is of particular importance for consolidating the ceasefire and ensuring the sustainable freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz,” the ministry said.
Morocco called for the prompt implementation of the agreement and full respect for its provisions, while expressing appreciation for the efforts undertaken by mediators to facilitate progress between the two sides.
“In this regard, the Kingdom of Morocco calls for the prompt implementation and full respect of the agreement and thanks all mediators for their efforts to facilitate progress,” the statement added.
Rabat also expressed hope that the understanding reached between Washington and Tehran would contribute to resolving other outstanding issues in accordance with international law and support broader efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
The agreement follows days of heightened tensions and military exchanges that raised concerns about regional stability and the security of international energy supplies. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments transit, became a focal point of international concern as the conflict escalated.
The ceasefire arrangement announced by the United States and Iran includes commitments aimed at ending hostilities and restoring maritime navigation through the strategic waterway. International organizations and several governments have welcomed the agreement, viewing it as a potential opening for wider diplomatic engagement after a period of intense confrontation.
Despite the breakthrough, officials and observers have cautioned that the durability of the ceasefire will depend on the full implementation of the commitments undertaken by both parties and continued diplomatic efforts to address the broader regional disputes that contributed to the crisis.
