Morocco, Vietnam Mark 65 Years of Ties With Push on AI Cooperation, Digital Transition

Morocco and Vietnam have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of digital transition, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies, as areas for greater collaboration, according to media reports.

Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Morocco's Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, represented the Moroccan government at a ceremony in Rabat marking Vietnam's National Day.

The ceremony, held on Monday, also marked the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, established on March 27, 1961, Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The relationship between the two countries was based on friendship, mutual respect, cooperation and shared historical memory, the report said.

Seghrouchni conveyed Morocco's congratulations to the Vietnamese government and people.

She reaffirmed the two countries' commitment to national sovereignty, territorial integrity, mutual respect and non-interference as foundations for stable and balanced international relations, the report said.

The engagement also highlighted the strategic geographic positions of both countries.

Morocco was presented as a link between Africa and Europe and a platform for access to the African continent, while Vietnam was described as a major gateway to Southeast Asia.

Against this backdrop, digital transition, artificial intelligence and new technologies were identified as areas offering promising prospects for deeper cooperation between the two countries.

The anniversary comes as bilateral trade between Morocco and Vietnam continues to grow. Two-way trade reached approximately $380 million in 2025, up around 25 percent from the previous year, the Vietnam News Agency reported.

That momentum has continued into 2026, with bilateral trade rising a further 26 percent in the first half of the year, the agency said.

Morocco became the first North African country to sign a trade agreement with Vietnam, in 2012.

The two countries have since established several cooperation mechanisms, including a joint trade and industry subcommittee and bilateral friendship associations, Vietnam Plus reported.

Morocco has also been expanding its digital and AI partnerships more broadly in recent months, including talks with France on AI governance and digital sovereignty.

The kingdom has pursued a wider push to position itself as a regional hub for AI and data infrastructure, backed by its Morocco AI 2030 strategy.

That effort is part of the broader Digital Morocco 2030 plan, which targets 240,000 digital jobs and $10 billion in GDP contribution by the end of the decade, Ecofin Agency reported.
