The fifth edition of the High-Level Meeting of Heads of Counter-Terrorism and Security Agencies in Africa, known as the “Marrakech Platform,” opened on Tuesday in El Jadida under the co-chairmanship of Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT).
The two-day gathering has brought together representatives of around 40 African intelligence and security agencies, alongside 90 observer delegations from the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
Officials from several United Nations regional institutions are also participating in the meeting.
Held against the backdrop of evolving and persistent terrorist threats across the African continent, the event builds on the momentum of previous editions hosted in Marrakech in 2022, Tangier in 2023, Fez in 2024, and Agadir in 2025.
According to organizers, the strong participation of African countries and international partners underscores the growing importance of the Marrakech Platform as a mechanism for strengthening counter-terrorism cooperation.
The forum serves as a platform for exchanging expertise, enhancing regional coordination, and identifying priorities for capacity-building efforts aimed at addressing terrorism and related security challenges across Africa.
