Morocco-Spain crisis: Spanish FM to be replaced in next government reshuffle

The Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister, Arancha Gonzalez Laya, is likely spending her last hours in her governmental post, after a number of diplomatic failures in the Spanish foreign policy, such as the crisis with Morocco and with Nicaragua.

According to the Spanish news website, Vozpopuli, citing diplomatic sources, Arancha Gonzalez Laya, would be replaced in the next government reshuffle, in a step aiming at ending the diplomatic crisis with Rabat.

The same source added, that the government reshuffle in the next July would witness the replacement also of the Economic Minister, in order not to give an impression that Morocco forced Spain to replace Arancha Gonzalez Laya.

The Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Luis Planas, and the current ambassador to France, José Manuel Albares, are two likely candidates to replace the current Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister, according to the Spanish news website.

Arancha Gonzalez Laya is considered the one who stands behind the reception of the Polisario leader, Brahim Ghali, in the Spanish territory, and flamed the diplomatic crisis with Morocco, according to Spanish media.

Morocco has cut its diplomatic relations with Spain after the incident of Brahim Ghali in April, and the relations between the two countries have not recovered yet.
