Morocco seeks to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19 within 5 months, Minister says

The Moroccan Minister of Health, Khalid Ait Taleb, has said to local media that Morocco seeks to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19 within five months at maximum.

According to the same source, the vaccination campaign is underway in good conditions in all Morocco regions, and the goal is to complete it in the next 3 to 5 months.

In order to achieve herd immunity, the health minister has said that it requires to vaccinate around 30 million Moroccan citizens in the mentioned period.

Ait Taleb has stressed that herd immunity would reduce the negative effects of COVID-19 and ensure a return to normal life.

Morocco started a national vaccination campaign against Coronavirus on January 28, 2021. The healthcare workers and public authorities were the first categories to receive the first dose of the vaccine.

As of yesterday, Morocco extended the national vaccination campaign to target people aged 65 and over, following the arrival of the third shipment of COVID-19 vaccines from India on Thursday, which was composed of 4 million AstraZeneca- Oxford vaccine doses.

Morocco has secured 6 million and a half vaccine doses so far, 6 million Astrazeneca-oxford vaccine doses, and half a million Chinese Sinopharm.
