The Moroccan ministry of Health and Social Protection on Tuesday stressed the need to maintain the stability of the epidemiological situation in Morocco which remains "under control" throughout the national territory, in light of a weekly increase in COVID-19 infections worldwide for the first time in five weeks.
"The spread of the novel coronavirus remains low in all regions of the Kingdom, where a considerable drop in infections has been recorded for the seventh consecutive week," said Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations, in the bi-monthly assessment of the epidemic situation (February 28 - March 14).
A total of 450 new cases were recorded last week, a decrease of 40% compared to the week before, said the official, noting that the rapid decline in infections has been accompanied by a sharp decline in the rate of positivity of tests, which was 0.8%. That is the lowest rate since the beginning of the community circulation of the virus in Morocco.
Mrabet noted the recording of a reproduction rate of less than 1 for 52 days, reporting a significant decline in the number of severe cases in intensive care units for the sixth consecutive week, with 63 patients last week, while 83 others have been discharged following the improvement of their condition.
Deaths have also continued to experience a significant decline, with 22 cases in the last week, a decrease of 44% compared to the week before, he continued.
Regarding the national vaccination campaign, the rate of people who took the first dose reached 67.5%, against 63.4% for those who received the second dose, while 16.3% received the booster dose, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.
Mrabet reiterated health ministry's call to all citizens, urging them to take part in the national vaccination campaign and receive the three doses of vaccine.
