Morocco recalls batches of infant formula over possible toxic contamination

Morocco’s food safety authority has begun a precautionary recall of several batches of infant formula sold in the country after receiving an international alert indicating that some of the products may contain toxic substances.

The National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) said in a statement that it immediately launched a series of preventive measures nationwide once it received the notification.

These steps included instructing the importing company to withdraw the affected products from the market without delay, while several batches have already been seized and stored in the importer’s warehouses pending completion of the return procedures.

The authority said the recall and return operations are still ongoing and will continue until they are fully completed.

ONSSA added that all batches of infant formula covered by the alert will be destroyed in accordance with the procedures governing food safety and public health protection.

The agency also explained that the batch number is printed on the side or bottom of the formula container, consisting of eight digits beginning with 2026 or 2027.

Consumers have been urged to avoid using products carrying these batch numbers as a precautionary measure.

The precautionary recall covers several infant formula products in 400-gram and 900-gram containers.

These include NURSIE 1, NURSIE CONFORT 1, APTAMIL PREMIUM +1, APTAMIL PREMIUM +2, and APTAJUNIOR PREMIUM +3.

According to the authority, the affected batches have expiry dates ranging between July 2026 and May 2027, with a detailed list of batch numbers provided to distributors.

ONSSA called on consumers to check the batch numbers on infant formula products in their possession and refrain from using any products matching the identified batches until the precautionary withdrawal process from the market is fully completed.
