Morocco, Netherlands Discuss Ways to Strengthen Judicial Cooperation

Morocco and the Netherlands discussed ways to strengthen judicial cooperation and exchange legal expertise during a meeting held Tuesday in Rabat between senior judicial officials from the two countries.

Mohamed Abdennabaoui, First President of Morocco’s Court of Cassation and President Delegate of the Supreme Council of the Judicial Power (CSPJ), met with Sue Preenen, General Prosecutor for International Judicial Cooperation of the Netherlands, who is leading a high-level Dutch delegation on a working visit to Morocco.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in judicial and legal affairs, as well as improving coordination and mechanisms for sharing expertise between the two countries, according to a statement from the CSPJ.

The two sides also discussed ways to enhance international judicial cooperation and address common legal and judicial challenges through closer coordination between their respective institutions.

Abdennabaoui presented the Dutch delegation with an overview of Morocco’s judicial system, including the structure of the judicial power and its constitutional and institutional framework.

The Moroccan side also outlined the role of the CSPJ in managing judges’ professional careers and safeguarding their independence, as part of the country’s institutional framework for the judiciary.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to review the organization of Morocco’s courts and recent reforms aimed at improving the efficiency of judicial decisions and bringing justice closer to citizens.

The two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen the professional capacities of judges, particularly through the exchange of expertise and experience in areas of common interest.

They also stressed the importance of developing cooperation mechanisms that can facilitate judicial coordination and support both countries in dealing with legal matters that have an international or cross-border dimension.

Both sides expressed their commitment to further consolidating the judicial partnership between Morocco and the Netherlands and strengthening international cooperation mechanisms in the judicial and legal fields.
