Morocco to Host Third Edition of International Mining Congress in October

Morocco will host the third edition of the International Mining Congress and Exhibition, IMC Morocco, in Rabat from October 6 to 8, according to a press release carried by EIN Presswire.

This will be the first edition held in Rabat, Morocco's capital, following two previous editions in Marrakech. The event will take place under the theme "Towards a New Industrial Era – Africa as an Integrated Hub for Strategic Minerals Transformation".

The congress is sponsored by the Federation of Mineral Industry of Morocco (FDIM) and AME Trade Ltd. The Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE) support it. The General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) is also a partner.

It is anticipated to host government officials, mining companies, investors, financial institutions and technology providers to talk about investment and sustainable development in Africa's mining industry, the organisers said. The agenda features a high-level conference, panel discussions, a business-to-business exhibition, technical site visits and matchmaking sessions.

According to IMC Morocco 2025's organisers, the 2025 edition of IMC Morocco that took place in Marrakech attracted over 650 delegates from more than 40 countries and over 100 exhibitors, representing the entire mining supply chain. High-level delegations from Africa's leading mining-producing countries also took part.

The Marrakech Declaration, that underlines the participating countries' commitments to environmental safeguards, as well as social responsibility and enhanced governance standards in the sector, was adopted at the event's conclusion.

Morocco's Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali, who spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2025 conference, gave a continentalist interpretation of the declaration. "This declaration is not Moroccan. It is African,” she said, according to the event's official website. “It belongs to every African nation and marks Africa's entry into a new era, one in which we define our own rules and determine the value of our own resources.”

The congress takes place as Morocco has sought to grow its footprint in the global minerals market. The North African country advanced to 15th place in the world in the Fraser Institute's 2025 Annual Survey of Mining Companies, which rates jurisdictions on their investment attractiveness, and has launched a national digital mining registry, which is intended to simplify licensing.

Morocco is the world's ninth largest producer of cobalt, with 2,000 tonnes produced each year and it has plans to link its mineral production to battery and clean energy production through gigafactories that are scheduled for Kenitra and Tangier.

The Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM), the state agency for hydrocarbons and mining, has confirmed it will be a participant in the 2026 congress to present Morocco's exploration projects and investment opportunities.
