Morocco is considering acquiring Israeli-made LORA long-range missiles and integrating them with US-made HIMARS rocket artillery systems to extend their capabilities and range, according to specialized defense reports cited by Israeli media.
The reports come as the Moroccan military prepares to receive a batch of US-made HIMARS systems after US Army documents listed 10 systems allocated to Morocco under preparations for the 2027 fiscal year.
The documents suggest that Morocco could receive the systems in the coming months, as arrangements for their storage, maintenance and technical support have already been included in the US military’s plans.
Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI) is expected to showcase the long-range LORA system at the upcoming Marrakech Air Show next month, according to the reports. The presentation could pave the way for a deal to integrate the Israeli system’s capabilities with Morocco’s HIMARS platforms.
LORA missiles have a reported range of 400 to 500 kilometers and an accuracy of less than 10 meters, giving them the ability to conduct precision strikes over long distances.
Integrating LORA with HIMARS would significantly extend the range available to the Moroccan military, exceeding the range provided by some of the ammunition included in Morocco’s original HIMARS request.
In April 2023, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that the US State Department had approved a possible sale to Morocco of 18 HIMARS systems worth an estimated $524.2 million.
The proposed package included 40 ATACMS missiles, 36 GMLRS Unitary missiles and 36 GMLRS Alternative Warhead missiles, as well as vehicles, communications equipment, command-and-control systems, training and logistical support.
In May 2026, a US Army contracting document reviewed by Assahifa showed that 10 HIMARS systems allocated to Morocco had been included among the support and equipment requirements for fiscal year 2027, alongside systems allocated to other countries.
The fiscal year 2027 arrangements also included direct technical support for Morocco, with two personnel scheduled to travel to the country to provide assistance related to HIMARS, including inspections, operation, and the system’s fire-control system.
Morocco already operates Israeli systems capable of launching long-range missiles, most notably the PULS system produced by Elbit Systems, which the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces demonstrated in operational use in March 2025.
PULS can launch unguided rockets, precision-guided munitions and missiles at different ranges. The system can engage targets at distances of up to 300 kilometers, according to the information cited in the reports.
The LORA system has also been used in combat, with Azerbaijan among its major operators. According to the reports, the Israeli side has also identified local cooperation, industrial collaboration, knowledge exchange and technology transfer as key areas of its defense cooperation with Morocco.
If Morocco proceeds with acquiring LORA and integrating it with HIMARS, the combination would give the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces an additional long-range precision-strike capability. However, the information about a potential LORA acquisition remains based on specialized media reports, and no official Moroccan or US announcement confirming such a deal has been cited.
