Morocco Launches Major Overhaul of Air Navigation System Under “Airports 2030” Strategy

Morocco’s National Airports Authority (ONDA) has announced a sweeping modernization of the country’s air navigation infrastructure as part of its “Airports 2030” strategy, aiming to equip the Kingdom with a more efficient, resilient, and globally competitive air traffic management system.

According to ONDA, the strategy focuses on modernizing control towers, integrating cutting-edge technologies, and continuously developing operational teams to strengthen flight safety, streamline air operations, and ensure service continuity amid sustained growth in air traffic.

A key achievement under this initiative is the new air traffic control tower at Nador El Aroui Airport, an eight-story, 26-meter-high facility that reflects ONDA’s commitment to supporting regional economic and tourism development through modern, high-performance infrastructure.

Nador Airport, which handled more than one million passengers in 2024, now operates a fully upgraded control center equipped with next-generation communication, data processing, and meteorological systems, placing it among Morocco’s most advanced regional airports.

ONDA highlighted that the project was designed and implemented entirely by Moroccan expertise, with the commissioning of the new tower completed seamlessly and without any disruption to air traffic, thanks to close coordination between Air Safety engineers and Air Traffic Controllers.

This milestone, the authority emphasized, represents a significant step in Morocco’s nationwide air navigation modernization program, with new control towers planned for Marrakech and Casablanca as the next phases of the “Airports 2030” vision.
