Morocco's General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an orange-level weather alert, warning of scorching temperatures across several provinces from Sunday through Tuesday, with highs expected to reach 47°C in some areas.
According to the DGM, temperatures between 45°C and 47°C are forecast in the provinces of Oued Ed-Dahab, Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Tata, Taroudant, Zagora, Errachidia, Aousserd, and Boujdour.
Maximum temperatures ranging from 42°C to 45°C are expected in Marrakech, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, and El Kelaa Sraghna over the same period.
The meteorological agency also warned that temperatures of 42°C to 45°C will affect Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Rehamna, Youssoufia, Khenifra, Taourirt, Khouribga, Settat, Chichaoua, Guercif, Taza, as well as the inland areas of Laayoune, Tarfaya, Guelmim, and Tan-Tan.
Meanwhile, temperatures between 39°C and 42°C are expected on Sunday and Monday in the provinces of Sidi Bennour, Chtouka-Aït Baha, Inezgane-Aït Melloul, Sidi Ifni, Tiznit, Essaouira, Driouch, Nador, Oujda-Angad, and Safi.
The DGM urged residents in the affected areas to take precautions against extreme heat, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and people with chronic illnesses.
