Morocco’s national electricity production increased by 4% during the second quarter of 2026, according to the Directorate of Financial Studies and Forecasts (DEPF).
In its latest economic report, the DEPF said national electricity production recorded an overall increase of 1.6% by the end of June 2026, compared with a 5.8% rise during the same period a year earlier.
The directorate attributed the growth mainly to the continued expansion of renewable energy production, which increased by 21.1% under Law 09-13.
The increase was also supported by a sharp rise in the contribution of national third-party producers, whose output jumped by 227.9% during the first half of 2026.
This growth was accompanied by a 0.9% increase in private electricity production during the first six months of the year, according to the DEPF.
The latest figures point to continued growth in Morocco’s electricity supply, despite a slowdown in the overall pace of production growth compared with the previous year.
At the same time, Morocco recorded a significant increase in its electricity exchanges with foreign markets during the first half of 2026.
Electricity imports rose by 34.6% by the end of June 2026, following an increase of 20.2% during the same period a year earlier.
In contrast, electricity exports declined sharply, with the volume falling by 41.5% during the first half of the year.
The development came as domestic demand for electricity continued to increase, with national consumption rising by 8.4% by the end of June 2026.
Although the increase in consumption was significant, it remained below the 15% growth recorded during the same period of 2025.
The figures underline the growing role of renewable energy in Morocco’s electricity production, with renewable output recording the strongest growth among the sources cited by the DEPF.
The sharp increase in production by national third-party operators also contributed to strengthening domestic electricity supply during the period.
Meanwhile, the rise in imports alongside the decline in exports indicates a shift in Morocco’s electricity exchanges with foreign markets during the first half of 2026, as domestic consumption continued to grow.
Overall, the DEPF data show that Morocco’s electricity sector recorded moderate production growth during the first half of 2026, supported by renewable energy and increased contributions from national producers, while stronger domestic demand and higher imports remained notable features of the sector during the period.
