Morocco denies rumours of child abductions linked to organ trafficking

Morocco’s national police have rejected what they describe as “malicious rumours” circulating online that claim children are being systematically abducted for organ trafficking.

In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said it had not recorded any cases of child abduction linked to organ trafficking, contradicting claims that have spread widely on social media in recent days.

The police said their reporting platforms, “E-blagh” and “Tifli Moukhtafi”, which allow citizens to report crimes or missing children, have received no alerts matching the incidents described in the rumours.

Authorities said digital monitoring had identified the circulation of old video recordings involving missing minors, which were shared online and presented misleadingly as recent kidnapping cases. According to the DGSN, investigations found no evidence of criminal activity linked to those cases.

Police said the rumours had sparked panic among some residents, prompting reports of alleged attempted abductions. However, subsequent judicial investigations found that the incidents were not criminal in nature and had no connection to kidnappings or organ trafficking.

The DGSN said judicial police had opened investigations under the supervision of prosecutors to identify individuals responsible for deliberately spreading false information.

Authorities added that the aim of the investigations is to determine whether the rumours were intentionally circulated in a way that could undermine public confidence and create unnecessary alarm.
