Morocco Assures Adequate Energy Supplies Amid Middle East Tensions

Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, said Tuesday that the country maintains sufficient national stocks of petroleum and energy products, stressing that there are no supply concerns despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking in Rabat after a meeting of a ministerial committee tasked with monitoring the economic impact of regional instability, Akhannouch said authorities are closely tracking developments to safeguard domestic market stability.

He highlighted continued government support for professionals in the road transport sector, underlining efforts to contain price volatility and ensure stability in transport costs, which directly affect consumer prices.

The government will also maintain subsidies for key basic goods, including electricity, butane gas, and sugar, as part of broader measures aimed at protecting purchasing power.

Akhannouch noted that Morocco is currently experiencing a favorable agricultural season, supported by improved water availability, which is expected to positively impact food supply and market conditions.

In this context, he said special attention will be given to agricultural products to ensure their distribution at lower costs across the country.

To reinforce these efforts, the government plans to establish a dedicated committee responsible for monitoring and maintaining price stability, with the objective of keeping essential goods affordable for citizens.

The announcements come as several countries assess the potential economic fallout of Middle East tensions, particularly in energy markets, with Morocco seeking to shield its economy through proactive measures and sustained public support policies.
