Morocco Arrests ISIS Supporter Suspected of Preparing Terror Plot in M’diq

Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) announced on Saturday the arrest of a 31-year-old man in the northern city of M’diq on suspicion of preparing and planning a terrorist attack aimed at seriously undermining public safety and public order.

The operation was carried out on the basis of intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), as part of ongoing security efforts to neutralize terrorist threats targeting the Kingdom and its citizens.

According to a BCIJ statement, preliminary investigations and security monitoring revealed that the suspect had embraced the extremist ideology promoted by the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist group and had actively engaged in preparations for terrorist projects under the concept of so-called “individual jihad.”

The investigations showed that the suspect had sought to acquire expertise in the manufacture of explosives in preparation for carrying out attacks targeting individuals, public order, and vital infrastructure.

The BCIJ said the suspect has been placed in police custody pending a judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office in charge of terrorism-related cases.

The investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the suspect’s alleged extremist activities and determine any potential links with terrorist organizations operating inside or outside Morocco.
