Morocco and India on Tuesday inaugurated a new plant for the production of armored combat vehicles in the city of Berrechid, under a partnership between Morocco’s National Defense Administration, India’s Ministry of Defence, and Tata Advanced Systems Limited.
The facility, named Tata Advanced Systems Morocco (TASM), will begin manufacturing WhAP 8×8 vehicles for the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, with plans also to export to international markets.
The project aims to strengthen Morocco’s industrial and technological capabilities in the defense sector, with future plans to locally integrate up to 50% of components.
According to Moroccan authorities, the plant will create 90 direct jobs and 250 indirect jobs, in addition to providing training opportunities for Moroccan talent and supporting a broader domestic defense ecosystem.
The new facility is also positioned to become a regional platform for exporting defense equipment, particularly to African markets.
