Morocco is stepping up its ambitions in the global race for artificial intelligence, with German public broadcaster Deutschlandfunk Kultur highlighting the Kingdom’s efforts to build a stronger position in the rapidly expanding sector.
In an episode of its international news podcast Weltzeit broadcast on Monday, the German broadcaster said Morocco is determined not to be left behind in AI and is investing heavily in data centers, specialist training and the digitalization of public administration.
The report presented Morocco as an emerging technology hub seeking to position itself at the forefront of Africa’s digital transformation and become one of the continent’s leading technology centers by 2030.
Deutschlandfunk Kultur also highlighted the presence of around 300 Moroccan startups at GITEX Africa in Marrakech, describing them as “Morocco’s hopes” in the country’s drive to develop its technology ecosystem.
The broadcaster said Morocco’s AI ambitions are largely driven by the expectation that the technology could contribute to greater economic prosperity and strengthen the country’s position in the global digital economy.
The report concluded by referring to a “Moroccan dream” fueled by investments in artificial intelligence and the broader digital transformation underway across the Kingdom.
The episode marks the first installment of a three-part Weltzeit series focusing on digital technology and its development across Africa.
