A clandestine textile unit located in the cellar of a villa in Hay Alinas, in the El Mers area of Tangier (North of Morocco), suffered on Monday an infiltration of rainwater that trapped some occupants of this unit, the local authorities of the wilaya of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region said.
Local authorities and the security and civil defense services intervened to rescue ten people who were transferred to the regional hospital to receive the necessary health care, while the bodies of 24 others were recovered, the same source said.
Search operations are under way to rescue any other trapped individuals, added the same source.
An investigation was opened by the competent authorities under the supervision of the prosecution to shed light on the circumstances of this incident and determine the responsibilities.
