Laboratory consortium to identify new Coronavirus strains in Morocco

The Moroccan Ministry of Health said announced yesterday that it had created a Laboratory Consortium to trace and identify the new Coronavirus strains within the country.

The consortium composed of the reference laboratory for influenza and respiratory viruses of the National Institute for Hygiene and the medical biotechnology laboratory at the Faculty of Medicine and pharmacy in Rabat, the functional genomics platform of the National Center for Scientific Research, as well as the Institute Pasteur in Casablanca, the ministry said in a statement.

The statement added in this regard that this network of laboratories' main task is to identify the mutated variants of SARS-CoV 2 present in Morocco and characterize them by genomic sequence.

This step from the ministry of health in Morocco enters into the form of the extensive efforts that the country does to reduce the Repercussions of Coronavirus and achieve a step forwards to recovery.

In this regard, Morocco kicked off a national vaccination campaign on Jan. 28, 2021, and up to Feb. 16, almost 2 million Moroccan citizens were vaccinated.
