The Spanish King Felipe VI called on Morocco on Monday to start a new phase in the relations between the two countries after the diplomatic crisis that Rabat and Madrid had faced.
In the speech delivered in the Throne Room of the Royal Palace in the traditional reception to the diplomatic corps accredited in Spain, King Felipe VI has urged Morocco to “walk together to materialize’ a new relationship and stressed that Spain “will continue to make all the necessary efforts to create and consolidate a common area of peace, stability and prosperity” with this country.
“With Morocco, our respective governments have agreed to jointly redefine a relationship for the 21st century, on stronger and more solid pillars. Now, both nations must walk together to begin to materialize this new relationship now. It is about finding solutions to the problems that concern our peoples”, the Spanish King added.
Felipe VI has defined the relationship with the Maghreb as “strategic for Spain” due to “our closeness and the intensity of the multiple ties” that “configure a relationship of clear interdependence. For this reason, our country will continue to make all the necessary efforts to create and consolidation of a common area of peace, stability, and prosperity. Our action is based on sincere and respectful ties of friendship and cooperation that we want to continue preserving and strengthening with all our Maghreb partners”.
