Israel set to begin the building of its first embassy in Morocco after resuming full diplomatic ties with Rabat in a US-brokered deal in late 2020.
According to Assahifa Arabic sources, Israel has allocated $4.5 million for this project, adding that the location of the embassy will be in an upscale neighborhood in the capital, Rabat, called "Souissi".
The diplomatic representative of Israel in Morocco, David Govrin, confirmed the news in a tweet commenting on a photo saying “I am very happy to share with you this photo, which witnesses one of the historical moments I lived with my team, as the construction contract for the headquarters of the permanent Israeli embassy in Morocco was signed with engineers and the Moroccan construction company. With this, we will begin, God willing, a new era in which we will consolidate our distinguished relations with Morocco”.
The building of Israeli embassy in Morocco will mark a new chapter in the relations between the two parties, as Tel Aviv will have for the first time in history an embassy in the Kingdome of Morocco after the two have used only liaison offices in their ties.
For Morocco’s part, there is no official statement about building or opening an embassy in Israel, however, several Israeli official have already talked about an expected visit of Moroccan Foreign affairs, Nacer Bourita, to Tel Aviv, adding that during this visit Bourita would inaugurate the embassy of his country.
