High-level meeting between Morocco, Spain going to be postponed once again

It became almost certain that the upcoming high-level meeting between Morocco and Spain in Rabat will be postponed for the second time, given the constant silence from both sides until today.

The high-level meeting was postponed from December 17, 2020, to February 2021, but without giving the exact date of the meeting this month, which raises the doubt of the possibility of being happenend in February.

According to media in Morocco and Spain, the reason for the postponement of the meeting that both countries point out to the pandemic development in Morocco and Spain seems that is not real.

Many analysts in Spain and Morocco talk about a "coldness" in relations between Madrid and Rabat, especially in several issues, such as Sahara's case in which Morocco has achieved significant progress after the recognition of the United States of the sovereignty of Morocco over Sahara.

Spain has expressed its dissatisfaction with the US decision. This "negative" attitude -no doubt- bothered Morocco, who looks for an acceptable and encouraging attitude from Spain, at least for the Moroccan autonomy initiative to end the Sahara dispute.

The high-level meeting that would be chaired by the presidents of both Spain and Morocco's governments should have held during February, but there are no signs that the meeting will take place until now.

The meeting will likely be postponed to another date. It could be March, but no one can confirm the exact date, as long as there is an ambiguity in the nature of the bilateral relationship between the officials of both countries.
