Four police officers were killed and 26 others injured in a road accident in southern Morocco on Saturday, according to the General Directorate of National Security.
In a statement, the national police force said the bus was carrying 44 members of a mobile public order unit based in Sidi Ifni. They were travelling to Agadir on an official assignment to help secure a football competition.
The accident occurred about 24 kilometres from Sidi Ifni. Authorities described it as a single-vehicle crash but did not provide further details about the cause. Two of the injured officers are reported to be in critical condition.
The head of the General Directorate of National Security instructed local police and the force’s medical and social services to closely monitor the injured officers’ condition and ensure they receive all necessary medical care.
The statement also said that administrative measures would be taken in line with regulations governing police personnel, including support and benefits for the victims and their families.
Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
