European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Vice President for Policy and Partnerships, Mark Bowman, will visit Morocco from June 24 to 26 for high-level meetings with government officials and representatives from the public and private sectors, as the bank seeks to deepen its engagement in the country and expand investment opportunities.
According to the EBRD, Bowman is scheduled to meet Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, and Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour. Discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation to increase investment in Morocco, with particular emphasis on enhancing private sector competitiveness, promoting inclusive economic growth, accelerating the green transition, and supporting reforms aimed at mobilizing additional private capital.
The visit will also include meetings with public- and private-sector clients, including Moroccan banking institutions, to discuss ongoing and future projects. The talks are expected to explore ways to improve access to finance and further support private-sector development, a key component of the EBRD’s strategy in Morocco.
Ahead of the visit, Bowman said he was pleased to return to Morocco and engage with partners across both sectors, stressing the EBRD’s commitment to supporting the country’s economic priorities, including sustainable growth, a stronger private sector, and the transition toward a greener economy. He will be accompanied by Haytham Eissa, the EBRD’s Head of Morocco.
Morocco became one of the EBRD’s countries of operation in 2012 after joining the institution as a founding member. Since then, the bank has worked with Moroccan authorities and private-sector partners on projects ranging from sustainable energy and infrastructure development to financial sector support.
To date, the EBRD has invested more than €6.2 billion in 129 projects across Morocco, with approximately 68 percent of total financing directed toward the private sector, underscoring the bank’s focus on fostering private-sector-led growth and sustainable economic development.
